WHAT TO KNOW WHEN SETTING UP AN INSTAGRAM.
If you’re not on Instagram, STOP what you’re doing and download the app. If you are but have no idea where to start, we’re about to go back to the basics.
In this email I will be providing you with a few tricks that can help you build your Instagram.
THIS IS IMPORTANT.
Make sure your Username is as accurate to your business name as possible.
The name that you use on Instagram NEEDS to be the same as elsewhere online. Being consistent will help people find you across various platforms, and will guarantee that it someone mentions you in a post, you’ll be easily found.
Don’t be mistaken, your name field and username are NOT the same thing, though they should be written in a similar way. The name field is obviously where your real name would go, but in this case it’s your Business name.
If you didn’t already know, the username and name field are two of the MOST IMPORTANT aspects of your profile, they are what’s used by the social network to generate search results. By adding your business name into the name field it increases search-ability.
Please find below an example of our name field and how we’ve search Prestige Social.
YOUR PROFILE PICTURE
Your profile picture is your identity. Ensure you’ve used your business logo so when search people will be able to easily recognise you. If you think about it, often people are more inclined to look for a picture before a name, so have a clear, crisp and accurate profile picture.
Your bio is where you provide followers with a detail description of who you are and what you do. Remember… YOUR BIO IS ONLY 150 CHARACTERS. Accurately describe your business in as few words as possible.
One trick worth taking advantage of in this field is USE THE LINE BREAK.
Another good tip would be to USE EMOJIS WHERE POSSIBLE.
Note: While a few carefully selected emojis can enhance an Instagram profile, the wrong ones can actually do more harm than good.
We have provided an example of the right amount of emojis to use below.
Whilst using special characters can change the appearance and position of text, it’s probably best to AVOID it, as there is not guarantee that others will see what you see.
SWITCHING TO A BUSINESS ACCOUNT
Turning your profile into a business account will help with the following:
- Your contact information: Having a Business account means you’ll be able to provide email, address, phone number etc to your profile.
- Access to analytics: You’ll be provided with insightful data of your content along with impressions, reach and follower insights.
- Promotions: Having a Instagram account also allows you to create social ads from the app (THOUGH WE RECOMMEND/ALWAYS USE ADS MANAGER)
USE OF A URL
Everything on your account should be both professional and appealing. This also applies to a URL. Not only does a bunch of random letters and numbers alter the visual appearance, but it makes it harder for others to remember. We suggest using a URL shortener, that way your URL will appear neater in your bio, and be easily readable to viewers.
Once you’ve effectively covered all these areas, your Instagram is ready for its first upload.
